The work of new viripanthal sponsored by a devotee from Karnataka is on progress at Paandithavalam.Pilgrims using the space which has already completed here. Cladding works is the only work to be completed.

In the new panthal, facility to charge around 120 mobile phones is available.About 1500 pilgrims can avail the space here.

The demolished space at the Telephone exchange can be used so as to use the open air to place viris.

Triveni Pampa Bus Service started

KSRTC has started service from Triveni to Pampa. The service is provided with every ten minutes.

In addition to this Pampa-Nilakkal 83 service also started. KSRTC is operating 350 trips a day.The Pampa depot has got 100 buses for transportation.KSRTC is all ready to take on as many devotees accoding to the increase in the crowd.

Rakku leaves supply by Kandaswamy

The rakku leaves that were used to distribute prasadam at Sabarimala have a story to tell. Kandaswamy and his 12 members from his home are bringing the leaves from the deep forest to Sabarimala. He is doing it for the past thirty years. Kandaswami belongs to pallan caste in Hindu and in the past it is the blessings given by Lord Ayyappan to them have made them every year here. On some occasion they have met with wild animals and they haven’t done a single harm to him and his team till date. The team will bring about 5000 leaves to the temple and the daily wage is Rs 300. The leaves were mainly brought from Pulmedu, Charalmedu, Panathoppu, Pipeline, Malikappuram kokka. Kandaswami and team has been working here from November 16 and will continue here till the Makaavilakku ends.

Kollam-Vishakhapatnam Special TrainH

More trains will be operated between Vizag and Kollam to handle the rush during Sabarimala season.

Visakhapatnam – Kollam bi-weekly special (Train No 08569) will leave Visakhapatnam at 9 am on Thursdays and Sundays from December 15, 2011 to January 15, 2012. It will reach Kollam at 3.30 pm the next day. Kollam-Visakhapatnam bi-weekly special (Train No 08570) will leave Kollam at 7.20 pm on Mondays and Fridays from December 16, 2011 to January 16, 2012 and reach Visakhapatnam at 1.25 am the third day.

The trains will stop at Duvvada, Anakapalli, Tuni, Annavaram, Samalkot, Rajamundry, Tadepalligudam, Eluru, Vijayawada, Tenali, Chirala, Ongole, Nellore, Gudur, Renigunta, Tirupati, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Tiruvalla, Chengannur and Kayankulam.

Advance reservation for the above trains will start on 14th Wednesday.

Virtual Queue Disrupts Ritual

The introduction of the virtual queue system has adversely affected the age-old Saramkuthi ritual performed by kanni Ayyappas during Sabarimala pilgrimage. The queue starting at Sabaripeedam bypasses Saramkuthi, origin of the ritual, en route Sannidhanam thereby forcing pilgrims to perform it at Sabaripeedam.


Every year kanni ayyapas shoot small arrows at a banyan tree at Saramkuthi in memory of the proposal made by Malikappurathama to Lord Ayyappa. Legend has it that Lord Ayyappa who’d renounced the world by then shot an arrow into the branch of a banyan tree under which the two stood and told Malikappurathama that he would marry her the day the tree wouldn’t have any arrows stuck to it.


The diversion has also affected business opportunities in Saramkuthi. “For years, Saramkuthi has witnessed a large number of devotees. But, now with the virtual queue system in place, the pilgrims are performing the ritual at Sabaripeedam,” said S. Sasi, a shop owner near Saramkuthi. Former Devaswom Board president G. Raman Nair said the virtual queue should not affect the beliefs of pilgrims. “When modifications affect the beliefs of people, they should be reconsidered,” he said.

Inauguration of M-Governance and Total Computerisation projects in KSRTC

KSRTC has launched M-governance project and inaugurated the first-phase of Total Computerisation project on Friday September 2 2011. Hon. Minister for Transport Sri. V.S. Sivakumar were inaugurated at a public function to be preside by the Hon. Mayor Adv.K. Chandrika, KSRTC CMD Sri. Alexander K Luke IAS, Sri. J. Vijayamohanan [FA&CAO, KSRTC], Sri. Venugopal [General Manager] and other dignitaries....

Total Computerisation project
As part of the Total Computerisation project, Depots and Workshops of KSRTC will be networked with the Chief Office in Thiruvananthapuram. Keltron is the implementing agency for this project.
The information on inventory, purchase, fleet management will be available online. Besides, information on body building, spare parts replacement, tax remittance, accident details will also be made available with the click of a mouse. 16 modules, including inventory management system, purchase management system, academic management system, intranet, telephone management, court case management, fleet management system, employee information system, medical reimbursement, disciplinary action, TA management and civil construction management will be implemented in the first-phase.


'Infowheels', a Mobile Computer Training bus would reach all the KSRTC depots to provide computer training to its employees.


M-governance project
M-Governance project is part of the Government's 100-day program. This service is expected to go a long way in helping passengers of KSRTC. Under this service, the public will get the bus timings through SMS. KSRTC is using this service developed by the Kerala State IT Mission.


Now this facility is available all Super Fast and Upper class services, certain Fast Passenger services and some important Ordinary services.
